Privacy Policy – Fear & Greed Monitor

Last updated: 4 October 2026 · Legal notice · Deutsch

This is a translation for convenience. The German version is the legally binding one.

This policy applies to the Fear & Greed Monitor app on Android and iOS.

1. Controller

The controller within the meaning of the GDPR is the provider named in the legal notice.

2. Overview

The app shows the Fear & Greed Index for stocks and cryptocurrencies and, if you wish, sends push notifications: at thresholds you set, on a mood change (when the index moves into a different band) and as an optional daily summary at a time you choose. There is no user account, no registration with name or email and no analytics SDKs. We do not know who you are — all data is held solely under a randomly generated, anonymous device ID.

3. Data our servers process

To provide the push alerts (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), our backend (Cloudflare Workers/D1, provider: Cloudflare, Inc.) stores per device:

The IP address is processed briefly during registration to prevent abuse (rate limiting) and is not stored permanently.

Deletion: All device data is deleted automatically when the app has not been in contact for a longer period: after 180 days if no alert is active. If an alert is still switched on, we keep the data longer (up to 540 days) — otherwise the very alert you set up would fall silent without you learning of it. If the app is uninstalled, Google tells us so via the push service, and the data is deleted immediately. You can also delete it yourself at any time: in the app under Settings → “Delete all my data”.

4. Push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging)

Notifications are delivered via Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google Ireland Ltd.). In doing so, Google processes the push token and technical device information. On iOS, Firebase passes them on to the Apple Push Notification service (Apple), which brings them to your device. Further information: Google Privacy Policy. Push can be switched off at any time in your device's notification settings.

5. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The app is funded by advertising (banners, occasional interstitials) from Google AdMob (Google Ireland Ltd.). Before the first ad is shown, your consent is obtained via the Google consent dialog (UMP) (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); you can change or withdraw it at any time in the app under Settings → “Privacy options”. In doing so, AdMob may process, among other things, your device's advertising ID. On iOS, the system asks you beforehand whether the app may use the advertising ID (App Tracking Transparency); if you decline, it is not available. Details: How Google uses data. With the one-time purchase “Remove ads”, no more advertising is loaded.

If you decline in the dialog: No personalised advertising is then shown any more, and nothing that requires consent is stored on or read from your device. However, Google and the providers listed in the dialog then base part of the processing (e.g. measurement and fraud prevention) on their legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), so that non-personalised advertising may still appear. You can object to this processing under Art. 21 GDPR — in the same dialog under “Manage options” or permanently by making the one-time purchase “Remove ads”; after that no advertising is loaded at all.

6. Purchases (Google Play, Apple App Store)

The one-time purchase is handled entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We receive no payment or account data, only the information that the purchase exists — stored only locally on your device.

7. Market data

Index and price data (CNN Fear & Greed, alternative.me, price data) is retrieved solely by our server from the respective sources. No user or device data whatsoever is transmitted to these sources.

8. Your rights

You have the rights under Art. 15–21 GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, objection) and the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). Since we store data only under an anonymous device ID, it can be matched solely via the app on your device — the easiest way to exercise your right to erasure is directly in the app (see section 3).
